Home Made Quilts

New postby RoseRuth » Sun May 04, 2008 7:59 pm

Have you ever made a homemade quilt? What is so special about these quilts that each material can symbolize something special in your life.

Part of your wedding dress, your favorite blanket, your childs favorite blanket. Your favorite dress or suit you wore on at your prom.

All you need to do is cut them in squares
Sew the borders around the square shape
then sew the squares together and to each other
24 squares is big enough for a small baby blanket. So you see how many more squares you will need for a twin size blanket.

If you want to know more just let me know.

Hi shaina. The squares were about 8 inches. After I sewed them together you could sew a lining onto the finished product. Hope you find some time to do this.

I wish I did. But my Girl Scouts handed them to expectant mothers at the hospital. They really loved giving these quilts and also able to see the new born babys as well. Maybe I'll make another one for my future grandchild.

I have only done a small amount of quilting certainly nothing to write home about. It is a very relaxing pass time though. I have only done it by hand, but I have seen some incredible machines that do the hard work that you can have at home and the results are pretty impressive. I would love to see any pics of peoples achievments with this craft. Quilting is quite a big thing here in Australia, with stores, clubs and community groups really taking off.

Not mine thing...would never have the patience or talent to be able to make one.
Have seen some that other people have made - they do an amazing job.

I've hand sewed 8 patch work blankets so far. I wouldn't call them quilts cause mine is just very simple patch work with left over cloth or old clothing .... etc. I think I've shown Rosey pics of it before. It's just simple squares sewed together. I think I've made three 2m X 2m blankets and the other five 2m X 1m.

Been wanting to go back to sewing but siting for long period of time nowadays is too painful on my back :(

Oh! Rosey ... I wish I knew people or organisations that I can donate to. I just give them away to friends who wants them.
